Queensland-based Australian Off Road Campers has scooped two of the major prizes in the Camper Trailer Australia 2011 OffRoad Camper of the Year awards.
The AOR Odyssey Export Signature withstood challenges from 12 other, highly-credentialed off-road campers to win the overall award.
The $53,200 Odyssey also picked up the gong for best off-road camper priced over $45,000.
Camper Trailer Australia magazine put the finalists through a gruelling three-day test, that included beach and off-road driving and camping. Each camper was judged against a set of criteria that included off-road performance, bushability, family-friendliness, home comforts/ease of use, and value.
Competing in the ‘$20-35K’ category were the Vacation Vacationer, Trackabout Safari SV Extenda, Southern Cross Road King Offroad, and All Terrain 17ft Full Offroad, which was the winner of this category.
The ‘$35-45k’ contenders included the Mountain Trail Extended Evolution, Complete Campsite Kakadu XT, Travelander Geo Convert 2, and Track Trailer Tvan Canning. The $44,500 Track Trailer was the top pick in this group .
Vying for ‘$45k+’ honours were Aussie Swags Campers Ultra E, the South African-built Conqueror Australia UEV 440 Evolution, Kimberley Kampers Kimberley Kamper Platinum, Vista RV Crossover, and the AOR Odyssey Export Signature.
Camper Trailer Australia magazine was effusive in its praise for the feature-packed Odyssey hard-floor camper, describing AOR as “the Rolls-Royce of camper trailer manufacturers”.
“Nothing is done in half measures, and everything on this camper is made from the finest materials, to the highest standards,” the magazine concluded. “It isn’t just a great camper trailer and tourer that’ll go anywhere in style, it is a fine-crafted machine that’s a joy to own, like a classic car or a Leica.”
