Not too late to join caravan club-fest

Registrations are still open for the annual National Caravan Clubs Rally in central Victoria, which kicks off on December 30

Around 500 caravans and motorhomes from around Australia are set to descend on the Goldfields region of central Victoria for the 14th National Caravan Clubs Rally.

The annual caravan clubs get-together will run over 10 days from December 30 to January 9 and be based at the Elmore Events Centre, a multi-million dollar facility set up specifically to cater for large groups and close to the tourist towns of Bendigo, Shepparton and Echuca.

Peter Hillas of the Central Victorian Caravan Club, which helped organise the event, said the rally has been eight years in the planning.

“That’s one of the challenges, finding a site that can accommodate 500 powered sites,” Hillas said. “(Elmore is) set up as a field day site originally, so it’s got the power and the water...

“There are more than enough toilets, and one large amenities block that has two special needs units, but we’ve brought in four extra shower blocks that will hook into the existing blocks. There’s been a proper dump point installed too.”

Hillas said 68 caravan clubs will be represented at the rally, with attendees travelling from as far as Western Australia and far north Queensland.

“We also have a few from New Zealand that have registered; they’re picking up motorhomes in Melbourne,” he said.

The rally costs $350, which covers site fees, morning and afternoon tea, and nightly entertainment.

Daily, optional tours have been arranged to the various tourist and historically significant sites in the region, including Bendigo Chinese Museum, Echuca's paddle boats and Holden museum, Sovereign Hill, Melbourne casino and a Murray River fishing trip.

There will be children’s entertainment and information sessions covering a range of RV-related topics including caravans and towing, crafts, computers, mobile phones, GPS, and men’s and women’s health.

Peter Wright, executive officer of the Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Victoria, will be one of the guest speakers.

Hillas said it's not too late to join the fun as registrations will be accepted up until the first day of the rally on December 30.
