No stopping Redarc Tow-Pro

World-first, Oz-built multi-mode electric brake controller selling well Down Under and set for overseas launch

A world-first, two-in-one electric brake controller manufactured in South Australia has been approved for use with caravans fitted with

Al-Ko electronic stability control (ESC).

Just months after its release, the new Tow-Pro is also proving a hit with buyers, overtaking in sales Redarc’s popular but more basic ‘red knob’ in-dash brake controller, despite costing almost twice as much.

Released in June, Tow-Pro offers motorists for the first time in the one unit, the choice of engaging either inertia sensing or user controlled braking on trailers, by turning a dial inside the towing vehicle.

Inertia sensing, or automatic mode, measures the braking force applied by the towing vehicle and applies the electronic trailer brakes to a proportional degree. It’s mostly used for highway towing whereas user controlled braking, according to Redarc, is more suitable for off-road towing and gives the driver full control of the brake level.

Redarc’s basic electric brake controller, which only offers a user controlled mode, retails for less than $200, whereas the ‘full fruit’ Tow-Pro has a RRP of $330.

Redarc’s managing director, Anthony Kittel said the Tow-Pro is currently underpinning a push by the Australian electronics firm into international markets, with Redarc recently exhibiting at large trade shows in France and Germany.

“We are currently examining major overseas markets and talking to potential agents in the USA and parts of Europe,” he said.

“We plan to begin exporting to these markets as soon as we have international patents finalised.”

A major supplier of battery power-related electronic products to the Australian RV manufacturing industry,

Redarc boasts 95 staff and a turnover of more than $26 million.

The privately owned company designs and manufactures, using mostly locally sourced materials, a range of products at its Adelaide facility and was recently awarded Telstra South Australian Business of the Year.
