NextGen goes to NextLevel

New dirt-bike carrying off-road caravan turns heads at Leisurefest

There are plenty of toy hauler caravans designed to carry motorbikes, but most have the downside of having to store the dirty, oily bike in the main living, eating or sleeping area when travelling.

But now there’s an alternative, with NextGen Caravans coming up with a neat alternative in a fully-equipped caravan with separate motorbike carrier located externally at the rear.

Unique rear platform makes carrying a dirt bike easy

Displayed at this year’s Melbourne Leisurefest, the 16ft 6in show van is one of the first of a new range of ‘Next Level’ off-road caravans from NextGen, which are built in Campbellfield, Victoria and distributed by Sunshine Coast, Melbourne and Sydney dealer GreenRV.

With a show price of $99,990, the striking orange, black and silver off-road van was loaded with exterior features, including G&S Control Rider suspension and Cruisemaster DO35 hitch, an external TV and slide-out kitchen, a front toolbox with Waeco fridge and bike holder, a Thule awning and Dexter sway control, while the inside was similarly impressive with a layout including east-west queen bed, café dinette, kitchen and separate shower and toilet and long list of features including the latest Garmin/Fusion infotainment system, full-size Thetford cooktop/oven and big Dometic fridge/freezer, an Eberspacher diesel heater and Houghton air-conditioner, lithium battery system and TV satellite dish.

Mounting platform folds up when travelling

However, it was the custom-built bike rack, holding the latest $14,000 KTM 300 EXC TPI endurance bike, that turned most heads at the show.

Running off an extended rear bar that also supports the two spare wheels, the two-part rear platform includes tie-down points and a ramp for the bike section, with another platform with separate ramp that allows safe access to the bike.

$100,000 NextLevel van is loaded with features including latest Fusion system

To keep it all legal this rearmost mounting platform, which incorporates the rear taillights and rego plate, folds up when travelling.

To allow for the extra 160kg of so combined weight of the rear platform and bike, the van came with an increased payload of 700kg. The additional storage options up front, which include two tunnel boots, are also designed to help balance out the load when towing.

NextGen will custom design exterior to match owner's dirt bike

While the show van was finished in colours to match the bright orange KTM dirt bike, other exterior colour options are available to match different dirt bike models. The NextLevel off-road range also comes in a range of body sizes, from 13ft 6in to 20ft 9in.
