Big-selling Melbourne caravan manufacturer Concept is hoping to grab an even bigger slice of the full-height Australian caravan market with a new, entry-level Tourister model brought out under its Newlands Caravans brand.
Displayed at last month’s Melbourne Leisurefest, the competitively-priced Newlands Tourister comes in four models (510, 610, 628 and 675) with nine layouts available.
Competing in the cut-throat $50-60,000 market segment, all Tourister models are well equipped with a queen size bed, café dinette, washing machine, TV/DVD player, CD/Radio and speakers, and LED lighting.
A gas/electric hot water system is connected to two 95-litre tanks via a 12-volt water pump, while the battery system includes a BMPRO monitor, 120W solar panel, and 100Ah battery pack.
The kitchen comes standard with a 190-litre fridge freezer, four burner cook top and grille, 12V rangehood, and microwave oven while the ensuite features a separate shower, cassette-style toilet and backlit mirror.
The 20-foot long, tandem axle Tourister van comes standard with rocker roller leaf suspension and 15-inch wheels. Like Concept caravans, the Newlands Tourister has a front boot, in
contrast to the full length tunnel boot on Concepts’ Franklin vans.
“With a tare weight of just two-tonnes and a featherweight towball downforce of 134kg, each model in the Newlands Tourister range can be effortlessly towed behind a wide range of vehicles,” the company says.
Concept Caravans, which builds Concept, Franklins and Newlands models out of two Campbellfield, Victoria factories, was on track to produce more than 800 vans this year. The company recently celebrated production of 6300 vans in total over the past 12 years.
