Queensland's Zone RV has given its brand-new, entry-level Base off-road caravan its first 'beach and bush' workout, as buyers line up to secure the first production versions of the Queensland manufacturer's cheapest full composite off-road caravan to date.
Announced in April, the new Zone Base caravans start from $79,000, or up to $43,000 cheaper than Zone’s existing Off-Road variants, although you do have to pay extra for some normally standard features like air-conditioning, A-frame toolbox and a second freshwater tank.
"'(Since) this Base Series (caravan) came off the production line on June 5, just under three weeks ago we have sold 15 Base Series, plus our usual products," Zone RV Marketing Manager Jade Guttridge told caravancampingsales. "It has been a busy month to say the least."
"The Base Series is a model that the market has been asking for and we are pleased to be now in the position (new large factory facility) to deliver it," she said.
The new Zone Base is available in 17ft, 18ft 6in and 20ft 6in body lengths in couple and family layouts, and shares similar fully bonded, lightweight composite body construction, bespoke steel chassis (hot-dip galvanized instead of Raptor coated) and Cruisemaster XT Coil suspension with Zone’s more upmarket Off-Road range.
Other standard features across the Base range include a Cruisemaster DO-35 hitch, 90L fresh and 100L grey water tank, 12in electric drum brakes, twin 4.5kg gas bottles, 16in black steel wheels with Cooper AT3 tyres, front stone protection, pull-out awning, two 120Ah AGM batteries with Redarc battery manager and 360W rooftop solar, combination hot water/air heater, 24in TV/DVD with aerial and a Fusion sound panel.
The cut-price Zone Base models will be around 100kg lighter than equivalent Off-Road variants, with the 17ft Base boasting a Tare of 2000kg and ATM of 2800kg.
The new off-road Base caravans will be made-to-order at Zone’s new Sunshine Coast, Queensland factory, with first deliveries expected from August 2020.
