New Winnebago a breath of fresh Eyre

Another Fiat Ducato-based motorhome hits the market, and the first six could be given away free!

It’s the base vehicle of choice in the UK and Europe when it comes to motorhome conversions, and is an increasingly popular choice for Australian converters too.

Now NSW’s Winnebago* has added another Fiat Ducato-based motorhome to its stable with the release of the spacious new two-berth Eyre.

Launched at this week’s South Australian Caravan and Camping Show, the Winnebago Eyre is built on the renowned Al-Ko chassis variant of the Ducato. It combines a low overall height – just 2.75 metres – with a roomy, flexible interior that includes an island double bed, well-equipped kitchen, seating for four people and separate shower and toilet facilities.

Reflecting its European heritage and long-distance abilities, the new Winnebago adopts the name of the famous lake named after Edward John Eyre, who, in 1839, explored the inland of South Australia. Eyre was also the first European to traverse the Nullarbor Plain and the Great Australian Bight.

Driving the Eyre is Fiat’s direct injection 16 valve 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 115kW at 3500rpm and 400Nm at 1700rpm, matched to a a six-speed MTA robotised manual transmission. The Eyre will retail for around $140,000 depending on options.

The Eyre also benefits from Winnebago’s adoption of SuperLite body panels for all its 2011 models. The advanced synthetic composite sheets alleviate the use of plywood panels in the sidewall construction, and are said to offer a number of benefits including moisture resistance, lighter weight, durability, and thermal insulation. The SuperLite panels are also 'green' in that they're made from recyclable composite material.

As part of the launch of the new Eyre motorhome, Winnebago is conducting the mother of all giveaways in conjunction with popular week night television program 'Deal or No Deal'.

Starting with last Friday's program and running for six week nights, each night one viewer will be given a one in 26 chance to win a Winnebago Eyre. Up to six motorhomes valued at over $850,000 could be given away as prizes, with at least one motorhome guaranteed to be given away at the end of the week if all else fails.

* The NSW manufacturer changed its name to Avida in 2013
