More than three years after introducing its first caravan, Emu Plains, NSW RV manufacturer Avida is releasing its first lightweight, family-oriented pop-top caravan range with a power-operated roof raiser fitted standard across all three models. “The Avida electric pop top range has been a long time in development as we wanted to produce something a little different and to make sure it had that ‘Avida wow’,” Avida sales and marketing manager Billy Falconer said.
“The Avida Wave is not like the traditionally built, clip in place manual lift pop-tops on the market. Avida has developed an exclusive electric lift mechanism that lifts and lowers the pop top at the touch of a button – no more struggling or sore backs,” he said.
“We have even added a 500mm lift to the interior which is higher compared to others on the market giving you even more space inside.”
Boasting a 2.13m interior height with the roof raised, the Wave rides on an Avida-built lightweight, hot dipped galvanised chassis with fibreglass sandwich panel construction for the floor, walls and roof.
Three different suspensions are available: standard ‘Tourer’ leaf spring, or optional Cruisemaster CRS or Cruisemaster XT trailing arm independent coil spring set-up. Also optional are Multi-Terrain and Explorer packs, depending how far owners want to go off the bitumen.
“These packs provide additional features for rougher roads, such as alloy wheels with off road tyres, checker plate side wall stone protection and a higher ground clearance,” Falconer said.
Three family-friendly layouts are available, offering bedding for up to seven people: a four-berth, 17ft single axle model with north-south queen bed, convertible dinette/bed and combination shower/toilet; and two 18ft tandem axle models with a transverse double bed and twin bunks with either a combination shower/toilet or another single bed (pictured).
The internal kitchen across the range includes a four burner cooktop with grille, microwave, fridge and stainless steel sink with drainer, with the option of a slide-out external BBQ.
Other distinctive features of the new Wave pop-top include a new-design moulded front with gas bottles stored in the boot, a hard wall bathroom divider and aluminium framed shower door, integrated exterior LED lighting and a “best in class” roof air conditioner.
Priced from $54,990, the entry-level, single axle 17ft Wave Tourer (pictured) has a travel length and height of 7.2m and 2.585m respectively. The price rises as high as $63,990 for the same model with Cruisemaster XT suspension.
Tare weights should be around 1700-2000kg, depending on model, with 'empty' ball weights around 125-150kg.
