New Tvan rival breaks cover
Extreme off-road BRS Sherpa hybrid camper debuts in AdelaideThe production version of the striking new BRS Sherpa micro-hybrid off-road camper is set to break cover at the Adelaide Lets Go Caravan & Camping Sale, at the Adelaide Showgrounds from July 26-29.
The teardrop camper-sized Sherpa is the second, locally-built model from fledgling, Redhead, NSW-based RV manufacturer BRS, which according to its online blurb “specialises in building new and exciting hybrid campers with features no other manufacturer can even come close to, with a one piece fibreglass composite top that has 25mm insulation and no joins between wall to roof”.
When fitted with the optional, $4700 Alu-Cab roof-top tent, the BRS Sherpa measures 4.45m long by 2.06m wide by 2.5m high, and has a Tare weight of 960kg, with a 90kg ball weight and payload of 640kg.
The cutting-edge construction includes a hot-dipped galvanized chassis, with an aluminium sub-chassis and Cruisemaster XT independent coil suspension with 10in electric brakes.
The lower body is made from marine grade aluminium (dual layer with insulating air gap) with a one-piece fibreglass composite panel for the upper body, and laser cut orange trim and Raptor protective coating.
The cosy, two-berth interior includes a queen size mattress, upholstered backrests, 21in TV/DVD, Fusion stereo, 12V/USB points and a sunroof.
Designed for serious off-road travel, the BRS Sherpa also has claimed “best in class” road clearance.
“The production models have seen a few minor tweaks since the recent 7000km off road test, including revisions to the kitchen to make it more user friendly,” said Mike Pavey from South Australian dealer The Dirt Off Road Campers, which joins West Oz Camper Trailers in Perth and AluCab in Sydney as retail outlets for the sharp-looking Sherpa.
With a starting price of $61,290, the BRS Sherpa is the latest entrant in the premium, Australian-built off-road, micro-hybrid segment pioneered by Track Trailer’s Tvan and that also includes the Melbourne-built Pioneer Mitchell.
“The Sherpa is set to shake up the off-road adventure camper market with its unique shape, loads of clearance, plenty of high-end kit and comforts rarely seen at this price point,” Pavey said.
“It will be interesting to see how it fares against the Patriot, Ultimate and Tvan in this segment.”
