New Sunliner revs into action

A Melbourne-based motorhome specialist has developed its first toy hauler caravan, specifically aimed at motocross enthusiasts.

The compact, three-berth toy hauler, features a traditional dinette/kitchen/living area at the front, with a separate garage/sleeping area in the rear. The two areas are divided by a wall with a door to access the main bed from inside the van.

The 'garage' area is just big enough for a double bed mattress that can be raised and lowered on its base via a 12 volt battery-powered lift system. By raising the mattress towards the 2.0m high ceiling, two people can sleep comfortably while allowing room for a couple of motorbikes, jet skis, mountain bikes, or other items, on the reinforced floor underneath.

Taury Adams from Sunliner dealer Melbourne RV said the toy hauler was "about four months in development" and was driven by a passion from a number of staff within the Melbourne-based company for action-packed outdoor pursuits including motocross.

"We did a smaller prototype first, and now have done a couple of production versions. We plan to roll them out to (Sunliner) dealers around Australia soon," he said during a sneak preview at Melbourne RV in Bayswater last week.

The toy hauler has similar construction to other Sunliner vans, including 'ThermoTough' insulated walls with fibreglass finish and tough UltraGal chassis.

Other features include a four-person dinette which converts to another single bed, Fiamma roll-out awning, Dometic windows, Fiamma skylights, shower/toilet, 12V/240V electrics, gas hot water, TV with digital antenna, CD/radio with internal and external speakers, Spinflo gas cooktop/oven, stainless steel sink, microwave, Dometic fridge/freezer, electric brakes and Al-Ko anti-sway hitch.

With sporty, racing inspired exterior graphics, the toy hauler is currently being promoted to motocross enthusiasts, with an example on display at last year’s Australian Motorcycle Expo in Melbourne and Sunliner planning to sponsor local motocross competitions.

The company also has plans to produce bigger toy hauler models including a longer, twin axle, version that can sleep up to six people.

Final specifications, model names and pricing are due to be released soon.
