A new overnight RV park has opened in the small Queensland town of Childers, near Bundaberg, after three years of campaigning by local businesses.
The Childers RV park officially opened this week by the Bundaberg Regional Council is designed to attract the thousands of grey nomads who travel through the region each year and help boost the local economy.
Bundaberg mayor Jack Dempsey said the 20 hour stopover parking location in Crescent Street designed for self-contained vehicles was the start of a rollout of RV friendly sites across the Bundaberg region.
“Childers is a beautiful town and invites visitors through its natural attractions. This park provides a further reason for people to stop, restock and enjoy everything Childers has to offer,” he said.
“The Gin Gin Showgrounds already caters to this market while in Bundaberg, Council is engaged in a consultation process with stakeholders regarding the potential site for an RV park.
Cr Dempsey said the needs of local caravan operators were taken into consideration to ensure they were not disadvantaged, including the distribution of special visitor packs to RV travellers that visit the area.
“The packs advise of other local parks where RV owners can extend their stay in the district as well as providing local visitor information,” he said.
“There are many thousands of motorhome owners travelling the national highway every year and passing through this community. They now have an excellent reason to stop here in Childers and I am confident the community will benefit from this initiative,” Mainey said.
