It seems Australians aren't the only ones drawn to coastal camping and sandy RV holidays...
Big European manufacturer Hobby has dipped its toes into the 'vanlife' and growing millennial RV market with the release of a new cheap, lightweight, retro-style caravan.
Tapping into the touristy, beach culture vibe of the northern German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, Hobby says the designers of its new Beachy composite caravan range were "inspired by all the emotions you bring home with you from holidays just like driftwood, shells, sand and beach grass, and cool social media stories posted by creative DIY geniuses".
The minimalist Beachy caravans stand out with their rear and side entry doors, and open plan layouts incorporating coastal theme decor and fittings and basic fitouts including a lounging/sleeping area, portable toilet and kitchenette.
There are also some fixing points on the floor for carrying bikes, etc, while other standard 'week-end escape' features include a 39 litre fridge, 13 litres drinking water, stainless sink, portable cooker, removable storage baskets, lights and electrical sockets.
The new Beachy vans are not exactly designed for off-road conditions but are compact and light enough (with 12-15ft body lengths and 900-1000kg ATMs) to be easily dragged to safety across the dunes if the tide rolls in unexpectedly.
The Hobby Beachy is pitched at first-time caravanners and younger buyers with a range of couple and family layouts available and prices starting at just 11950 EUR (around $19,000).
No word if or when they'll make their way down under, but they'd certainly get a few likes from the 'coastal chic' camping crowd...
