RV and marine audio system maker Fusion Entertainment has added Apple AirPlay to its Apollo entertainment system, claiming a world first for an RV and waterborne roll-out of the technology.
It means iPhone users can stream audio via their caravan's sound system, with AirPlay having the benefits of having a greater device range than Bluetooth, and streaming at a higher quality to produce crisper sound.
Best of all, it’s available with a free software update.
But it isn’t any ordinary of AirPlay, with Fusion shaping the technology to the harsh camping and marine environments to gain Apple’s tick of approval to roll it out.
“We went through an extensive application process to demonstrate to Apple why Fusion marine stereos are unique in construction and worthy of AirPlay designation,” Fusion managing director Chris Baird said. “Unlike our competition, we recognise that a boat is not a car, and have built our systems from the ground-up specifically for the demanding needs of our discerning clientele.
“Having the official Apple AirPlay distinction further solidifies Fusion as the premier innovator in the marine audio space, and sets the Apollo series even further apart amongst audio entertainment systems.”
At its top end, Fusion’s audio system includes a built-in Wi-Fi hub, digital sound processing to limit distortion, and smartphone-based apps to control various functions. It will also limit audio to certain zones, allowing the party to continue on one end of the system, and more relaxed listening elsewhere.
New Zealand-based Fusion Entertainment is owned by global electronics giant Garmin.
