Like the look of the latest off-grid, all-terrain 'expedition caravans', but can't quite stretch the budget to the six figure asking prices for the new Australian-built Bruder EXP-8 or upcoming Zone Expedition?
Well, Melbourne-based Chinese RV brand Star Vision has a cheaper alternative with the recent release of its new range-topping PX3 five-berth off-road hybrid pop-top camper.

Displayed at this month's Mornington Great Outdoor and 4x4 Expo in Victoria with an enticing pricetag of $59,990, the new 16ft PX3 pop-top hard-wall camper sleeps up to five people with a fixed north-south, king size double bed and small cafe dinette that converts to another single bed, with a fold-up bunk bed above.
There's also the option to sleep a fifth family member in a large external locker, as long as they don't mind sleeping outdoors with the top-hinged door raised.

Outside cooking takes place around another big external locker on the onside wall, which contains a large cavity with three burner gas cooktop and stainless sink with mixer tap in the wide benchtop, along with electrical sockets, an audio entertainment system and space to fit an optional chest or bar fridge.
The new Star Vision PX3 also comes standard with a separate shower and vanity, sink and cassette toilet inside, along with a 300Ah AGM battery system with 2000W inverter and 200W rooftop solar panels, and 200 litre fresh water and 80 litre grey water tanks.

Other standard features include an electric pop-top roof, floor-mounted reverse cycle air conditioner, large skylight, jerry can and gas bottle holders, twin spare wheels, awning, external shower, and plenty of LED lights and storage options, both inside and out.
Construction wise, the hard-wall pop-top body sits on a hot dipped galvanised steel chassis, with off-road coupling and jockey wheel and an independent trailing arm coil suspension, 12in electric brakes, and 16in alloy wheels and mud tyres also part of the all-terrain package.

The 16ft hybrid camper measures 6.4m long (overall), 2.0m wide and 2.3m high in travel mode, with a stated Tare weight of 2240kg and 2800kg ATM. Other options include a diesel heater, TV, microwave and awning.
Based in Dandenong, Victoria, Star Vision has been in business for around six years with retail outlets also in NSW and Queensland. The new top-spec PX3 off-road pop-top camper boosts Star Vision's range of hard-floor camper trailers, off-road pop-tops and hybrid caravans to eight models, with more models on the drawing board and set to arrive later this year.
