A tough new Queensland-built premium off-road camper trailer will make its public debut at the Let’s Go Brisbane Caravan & Outdoor Sale at the Brisbane Showgrounds from October 29-November 1.
Designed for hardcore off-road adventures, the new OffTrax camper trailer is a lightweight, compact and relatively well-equipped bush camper, with enclosed storage areas, kitchen, plumbing and electrics all accessed externally and packaged tightly within the main body and chassis, and a roof-top tent mounted on top for sleeping.
The stubby camper measures 3.77m long by 1.87m wide by 1.48m high and boasts a Tare of 930kg (without the tent). Payload is up to 670kg depending on options fitted.
The OffTrax camper is the brainchild of Gold Coast-based Steve van Staden, who was the Australian distributor of a South African brand of camper trailers for a number of years before deciding to design and build his own camper trailer.
Featuring a tough central beam design, hot dipped galvanised chassis similar to the NSW-built BRS Sherpa, the OffTrax comes standard with Cruisemaster XT Freestyle independent coil suspension, DO-35 coupling, 12in electric brakes and 17in black alloy wheels with mud tyres.
The body is made from 3mm aluminum with stainless steel fittings and automotive rubber seals, and boasts 2500 litres of storage in nine separate compartments including two rear slide-out drawers located behind the swing-away rear tyre carrier. There's also storage along both sides and in the nosecone, with lockers suitable for a portable toilet and jerry cans.
The external slide-out kitchen includes a two burner cooker and grille with a stainless steel drop-in washtub and plumbed hot water, along with a Rimex benchtop, pantry drawers, and separate slides for an optional National Luna 60 litre fridge/freezer and Weber BBQ.
The compact Aussie-built camper also comes standard with two 110Ah AGM batteries and Redarc Redvision and Manager 30 battery management system, along with various 240V/12V/USB sockets.
Also standard are two 65 litre poly water tanks, a built-in Joolca gas hot water system, Shurflo water pump, two 4kg gas bottles and two gas bayonet fittings, all neatly tucked away either within the chassis rails or camper body for protection off-road.
Also part of the package is an Australian-made, hard-lid Camp King two-berth roof-top tent that weighs 90kg, and an external drop-down shower enclosure.
The new OffTrax camper is priced from $44,890, with the full complement of options available including twin lithium batteries, solar mat, LED work light and inverter, pushing the price to $56,890.
