New German vans coming

Latest British-spec 2017 Knaus StarClass models on the water
After a slow start, Avan is renewing its push to establish German Knaus caravans as a premium niche brand in Australia, with its bid strengthened by the recent launch of the new Knaus StarClass range that was designed in Britain, but built in Germany specifically for the UK market.
A number of the new StarClass vans are currently on the water bound for Australia and although due to debut locally at this week’s Victorian Caravan & Camping Supershow, they are now expected to have their first public showing at the Sydney Supershow held at Rosehill Racecourse from April 25-30.
The delay should allow the new Knaus models to be ‘Australian-ised’, with modifications including additional fresh water capacity, the fitting of a number of local appliances and changes to meet local gas regulations.
The commencement of volume UK-spec production by Knaus-Tabbert is a boon for Avan, which previously had to argue the case with the Germans for the production of left-hand entry door models mirroring their European counterparts. This delayed arrival of new Knaus models, whereas with the commencement of UK production, new models and updates should find their way much faster to Australia as they do with other UK/Euro brands like Adria, Bailey and

Swift.

A key attraction of Knaus to Avan is that it allows them to cover the upper end of the market that Avan has yet to penetrate.
The key 2017 Knaus model for this putsch is the new StarClass, which effectively replaces the Eurostar locally.
Being designed in the UK, where Bailey and Swift dominate, the StarClass has a close resemblance to its UK rivals in terms of its layout and features.
As well as offering a luxurious-appointed four-berth cabin with a scenic front lounge and rear ensuite, a key feature of the 6.3 metre long (internal) StarClass 690 will be its anticipated local tare weight of less than 2000kg, making it that all-important ‘Prado-friendly’.
It will also be interesting to see if Avan matches the five-year warranty offered on 2017 Knaus models in the UK.
