Attaching a trailer safety chain securely is a legal requirement when towing a caravan, but it's often a fiddly task when using conventional D-shackles; not to mention they can jam up if over-tightened.
Now there's a new alternative with South Australia's Dix Engineering recently releasing the Mawby Hook quick action trailer safety chain coupling.
"If your work requires you to frequently use a trailer or if you enjoy getting out on the open road while towing your caravan, our Mawby Hook is an essential item to have in your shed," the company says on the Dix Engineering website.
"Designed by Dix Engineering in our Renmark workshop, the Mawby Hook is a quick action trailer safety chain coupling which is easy to install and suitable for most towbars."
Constructed from drop forged steel and suitable for trailers weighing up to 3500kg, Dix says the Mawby Hook has been fully tested to AS4177.4 for caravan and light trailer towing components (patent pending).
Apart from being easy to install and suitable for most towbars, Dix says the Mawby Hook is a 'pilfer proof' attachment.
The Mawby Hook kit which includes the hook, shackle, load pins and spring pins, along with fitting instructions, is priced at $45 each or $90 a pair from Hall Towbars, and other outlets.
