Caravelair joins Euro brigade

New lightweight French caravans arrive down under including 22ft model with 1190kg Tare

Australian caravan buyers with smaller tow vehicles, or who appreciate French flair, now have another lightweight European brand to choose from.

NSW-based trailer and caravan company Carlight is importing into Australia a range of full height, lightweight on-road vans from French manufacturer Trigano VDL.

The Caravelair Antares range of composite caravans are available in six layouts, offering from two to six berths and with body sizes ranging  from a tiny 3.95m (13ft) with 800kg Tare and 1000kg ATM, right up to a big 6.91m (22ft) model with 1190kg Tare and 1500kg ATM.

All come with a a fully-equipped kitchen and shower and toilet (either separate or combined), and are built on a galvanized chassis with AL-KO independent rubber suspension, AL-KO stabilizer coupling and a body made from GRP and insulating XLS panels.

All the vans are fitted with a combination hot water/central heater, and Seitz windows with pleated blinds and fly screens. They're also pre-wired for a TV aerial, solar and an air-conditioner,

Carlight says the French caravans are “Australian approved” and come with a 12 month manufacturer's warranty and two year water ingress warranty. They're certified to Grade III insulation standards, like most British and Euro vans, and feature some unique items like a 'Comfort Plus' thermo-regulating and anti-dust mite foam mattress.

Carlight is also the company behind Euro Caravans, which sells Polish-built micro vans, so has a track record in featherweight European caravans. Established in 1962, Caravaliar is France's biggest RV brand and builds around 5000 caravans a year for local and overseas markets.

Competition in the imported, super-light caravan market has dropped off in recent times, with Avan putting a hold on sales of its German-built Knaus caravans, Britain’s Elddis dropping out of the market altogether, and Bailey focusing its attention on its Austrailan-built range.

The French Caravelair vans range in price from $39,990 to $51,990 , and will be on display at next month’s Hunter Valley Caravan Camping 4WD Fish & Boat Show in South Maitland, NSW. Visit the website for full details.
