Fast-growing camper trailer and caravan importer Ezytrail has released the Parkes 18, a tandem-axle, five-berth ensuite off-road pop-top camper that will attract families who want to go camping deep into the bush.
The first example of the long-awaited Parkes 18 arrived on the docks in February but the new model got its first significant, official showing at last week's Sydney Caravan Expo.
The Parkes 18 is 6856mm long, 2110mm wide and 2600mm high (with the pop-top roof lowered). It’s no fly-weight however, with a Tare of 2900kg and ATM of 3400kg. Towball download (Tare) is 240kg.
The chassis is a galvanised 100mmx50mm RHS steel unit (150mm x 50mm A-frame) and the Ezytrail hitches up with an AL-KO off-road coupling.
Suspension is independent, coil-springs with two shocks per wheel, brakes are 12in electric drums while tyres are 265/75/R16 mud terrains mounted on LandCruiser six-stud pattern 16-inch alloy wheels.
Two identical spares are mounted on the rear bumper bar.
The Parkes 18’s body is a composite panel cladding over a aluminium RHS frame and as you can see in the pics, there's plenty of aluminium checkerplate protection. Pop-top has a vinyl skirt and there's also a rear bed slide-out.
The rear ‘queen-plus’ bed and two front bunks (one a single, the other a king single) are complemented by a U-shaped dinette, which converts to a single bed.
The Parkes 18 comes well-equipped out of the box, at a starting price of $54,990 (plus on-road costs). Standard gear includes three 100A/h gel batteries, 230 litres of fresh water and a 110L grey water tank, ensuite, external kitchen with four burner stove, a fridge slide, awning, 28 litre 240V/gas hot water system, air-conditioning, 24-inch LCD TV with DVD player, bunk beds, king-size mattress, 300watts of solar on the roof, microwave and a 110-litre fridge/freezer.
Options available include a fully enclosed annexe for $1500.
Ezytrail is one of a growing number of Chinese caravan importers, that include Snowy River, Goldstar, Fantasy and MDC.
The Melbourne-based importer started to broaden its range with imported hybrid campers in 2016, building on the success of its existing range of affordable hard- and soft-floor camper-trailers.
The Parkes range also includes two-berth 13 foot and four-berth 15 foot versions.
