New Escape at Brisbane show
Avida continues new model roll-out with upgraded, work or play Escape motorhome to be unveiled at Brisbane showAvida RV is set to unveil a new version of its unique work or play, Escape campervan at the Queensland Caravan Show at Brisbane's RNA Showgrounds from June 8-13..
Introduced in 2010 when the NSW manufacturer was still operating under the Winnebago name, the Escape was a fresh take on the traditional van-based camper with an electric drop-down bed in the rear section that also could double as a garage for motorised toys or tradie’s tools.
Priced around $115,000, the 6.4-metre long Escape is based on the 3.0-litre turbo diesel Fiat Ducato van and comes with two or four-berth layouts, but Avida is keeping mum about any changes on the new model prior to its launch next month.
“We’re going to launch the new Escape at the Brisbane show, but I can’t say just yet (about any changes),” confirmed Avida RV sales and marketing manager, Billy Falconer.
At last month’s Sydney Supershow Avida launched its first motorhome available with an optional Multi-Terrain pack, similar to that offered on its latest range of caravans.
Designed to make it better suited to light off-road road work as well as free camping, the MT pack costs $6000 and includes an additional 60 litre water tank, black checkerplate and mouldings, external hot/cold shower, BBQ fitting, nudge bar and driving lights, solar panels, and relocation of the spare wheel above the rear bumper bar to increase road clearance.
The new Ceduna is also available with the more rugged Iveco 45C chassis and diff lock, for further rough road capability.
Ditching the Mercedes-Benz cab-chassis for the latest Iveco platforms, the new Ceduna also features a “new look” exterior and interior including new body mouldings and the option of an additional storage area instead of the cab-over double bed.
“The interior has got a lot of changes,” explained Falconer. “You still have the electric bed and rear club lounge, but we’ve added a personal work station at the front with a TV so people can use the front area without disturbing their partner asleep in the back, which is feedback we got from the last Ceduna. It’s also got a new ‘dry’ bathroom.”
Pricing for the just over seven-metre long Ceduna motorhome starts at $136,990 with the manual transmission.
Falconer said the MT pack, which has proved a popular option on Avida’s Emerald and Topaz caravans, is already a hit with Ceduna buyers.
“We’ve sold a few already… some dealers have actually sold them sight unseen,” he said.
He didn’t rule out Avida introducing a proper off-road motorhome in the future, similar to 4x4 van and truck models offered by rivals like Trakka and Suncamper.
“If there’s demand we’ll build (an off-road motorhome),” he said. “We’re happy to meet the market demand if necessary but at the moment we feel having (the MT pack) is enough to capture that part of the market.”
