Australia's newest caravan brand gathers Momentum

Australia's newest caravan brand is tackling the problem of water ingress in caravans, with the introduction of a new harder-edged, metal fabricated corner mould system on its brand-new model range.

Launched in early-August, the new Melbourne-built range of touring, semi off-road and full off-road hardtop models from Momentum Caravans feature a new Armor Edge corner protection system; replacing traditional exterior J-moulds with a beefier powdercoated alloy alternative that not only covers a larger (40mm x 40mm) area but uses fewer screws to attach to the frame.

Momentum Caravans' director Sam Wyatt, who is also the co-owner of Rosebud, Victoria-based Our Van RV, said the new Armour Edge system delivers up to four-times greater strength and sealing than a regular J-mould.

"We wanted (a new corner mould) that would not only make them stand out from the crowd, but make them a bit tougher and get rid of the old plastic infills," Wyatt said.

"It delivers a much larger water barrier from the sealant, and we apply the corner mould with a hybrid urethane silicone rather than just silicone... so it's thicker, heavier and will resist lighter impacts better, plus it looks really cool."

Launched by the two brothers behind the 15-year old Our Van RV caravan retailer and repairer, the new Momentum range kicks off at around mid-$70K with the Pulse touring range, with the semi-off-road Shift range starting at around $90K, and the off-road/off-grid Velocity range from around $115,000.

Momentum is also offering a limited-build, top-spec Velocity X "which is like a Velocity on steroids". It kicks off around the $150K price-point and features Cruisemaster ATX airbags, a Raptor-coated Truss chassis with rear platform bar and a 600Ah off-grid power system, among other hard-core off-grid features.

All up there are 47 different variants available in the new Momentum caravan range, which includes a variety of body lengths, axle configurations and layouts, and with some customisation available.

Sam Wyatt said the mix of design and features of the new Momentum range were based on personal touring experience as well as customer feedback, with the objective to deliver "Australia's best value, high end van".

The Momentum vans are built in an existing Melbourne caravan factory, and incorporate some of the latest body-on-frame caravan construction trends including a TIG-welded aluminium frame with Air Cell insulation and aluminium composite panels, together with a one-piece honeycomb floor and fibreglass roof.

All Momentum vans come with an above-average 2.0m internal height and a decent 750kg-odd payload, while the CNC-cut furniture is beefed up for off-road use including the adoption of metal-sided, soft-close cabinetry with 'posilock' catches.

The Momentum vans ride on a Protector-coated Road Runner chassis, while the luxury interior fit-outs incorporate upmarket Bella Vista tapware, leather upholstery with bespoke stitching and a one-piece moulded acrylic shower cubicle.

Up-spec off-road models are fitted with Victron power systems including 240Ah lithium batteries and a 3000W inverter that can run a host of on-board appliances including the latest myCoolMan 3kW rooftop air-conditioner.

"All the Momentum vans come well equipped with standard inclusions like 12V fans, a Smart TV, dual bug lights, and double glazed windows," Wyatt said.
