New Age raises the bar for entry-level caravans

Latest New Age Road Owl pop-tops and caravans deliver more style and substance at affordable prices

Cutting-edge design, automotive-inspired engineering and affordability don’t always go hand in hand in the caravan market. But Australian RV innovator, New Age, has combined all three with the release of its updated range of entry-level Road Owl pop-tops and caravans.

With prices starting from well under $50,000, the redesigned and re-imagined 2022-model Road Owl caravans and pop-tops are purpose-built for value-conscious buyers and first-time caravanners looking to hit the road and explore Australia.

Catering for families as well as couples, the New Age Road Owl range offers six floorplans in total, including a variety of feature-packed, two- to five-berth internal layouts, all with ensuites, and with more features and optional extras available than previous versions to make them even better value for money.

Auto-inspired and expertise

The latest updates also include more of the auto engineering expertise and design influences New Age owner, The Walkinshaw Group, can deliver. These are benefits already rolled out across upmarket New Age models like the Oz Classic and Manta Ray.

The Walkinshaw ‘signature’ touches are as much for practical as cosmetic purposes, according to New Age.

“The rear mould and smooth rear wall brings a signature-look to all New Age caravans for a familiar ‘down the road’ appearance that ensures the consumer knows when they see a New Age caravan,” explained New Age Caravans’ General Manager for Sales and Marketing, Darren Swenson.

“The design also allows the spare wheel to be recessed and takes the additional weight off the rear bumper providing extra safety to our customers. It also means that every New Age caravan will meet or surpass the new Road Vehicle Standards Act that has just been introduced across the industry,” he said.

Other exterior updates include a restyled front-end and bold new graphics, along with additional thoughtful touches like an easily accessible dedicated water pump cradle with independent isolation valves.

The inside story

Interior changes on the 2022 New Age Road Owl Range include a stylish new Holland blind on the entry door and upgraded edge banding on all cabinetry and partitions, while the re-sculpted dinette seat cushions deliver more comfort and lumbar support.

Road Owl caravans also get a purpose-built surround designed to keep the microwave firmly in place over bumpy roads, plus new reading lights with built-in USB ports to keep the electronic devices charged up on holiday.

When it comes to floorplans, New Age Road Owl buyers can choose from two Pop Top variants, including a single axle 16ft (internal body length) couple’s layout with north-south double bed, kitchen galley, dinette/lounge and full width rear ensuite. The larger 18ft, four-berth family tandem axle Road Owl Pop Top features an east-west large double bed, galley, L-shape lounge/dinette, double bunks and a full north-south ensuite with separate shower and toilet.

For those who prefer a fixed, full-height configuration, the New Age Road Owl Caravan range includes 16ft and 18ft couple’s layouts with north-south queen bed, kitchen, dinette/lounge and full width rear ensuite.

Families also have the choice of two caravan bunk layouts, in Road Owl 19ft or 21ft body lengths, with either an east-west or north-south queen bed, dinette/lounge, kitchen and double or triple bunks located at the rear, opposite the separate shower and toilet.

Loaded ready for the road

Like all New Age caravans, the sharply-priced Road Owl models are built to last with a Walkinshaw engineered, hot dipped galvanized chassis, 50mm ball hitch, sturdy leaf spring suspension and 15in alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres.

There’s also peace of mind when towing with the BMPRO Sway Control electronic safety feature fitted as standard across the range.

For more creature comforts, there’s an optional Comfort Pack which includes an air-conditioner, 28-inch Smart TV and antenna, external speakers, additional 9kg gas bottle and 110-litre water tank, 150W solar panel, picnic table, water gauge display and gloss cupboard doors.

More adventurous travellers can opt for the all terrain-ready Adventurer Pack option which adds, among other things, Cruisemaster CR2 independent coil suspension, a recessed coupling, bigger 16in wheels, high-profile silver stucco cladding, a reverse camera and external shower.
