A custom-built New Age caravan with heat-seeking, all-black exterior is set to be the star of the show at the first official get-together of the fledgling New Age Owners Club.
The New Age Oz Classic Slider model with "midnight" exterior is owned by club president Bryan Crow, who recently replaced his two-year-old New Age Jewel caravan with the unique 22ft model.
Bryan wasn’t willing to provide a photo of his jet-black van (he said New Age wants to display it at the Melbourne Leisurefest show in early-October).
However, he did provide two photos of the interior with its more standard grey, silver and black colour scheme (a standard, grey Slider model is also pictured), which he has brightened up with fluoro orange and yellow towels, throw-overs and a multi-coloured bedspread.
“I’m going to wait until we hit the road and then people can see what it looks like,” he said about the black-coloured van, which should stand out even more against his white Volkswagen V8 Touareg tow vehicle.
The New Age Owners Club was formed last month, with 55 owners already signing up for free membership.
After promoting the event on New Age’s Facebook site as well as the New Age Owners Club website, he expects at least 20 owners to converge on Cowes Caravan Park on Phillip Island from September 12-15.
A handful of people awaiting delivery of their New Age van are also expected to turn up, some with their current, non-New Age van.
As well as visiting some of the island’s many tourist sites, planned activities include information seminars to help new owners come to grips with all the technology now included in the latest New Age models, such as the exclusive wall-mounted washing machine.
Representatives from the New Age factory will also be at Phillip Island, with the manufacturer set to pay for dinner and drinks on the Saturday night.
With thousands of New Age caravans hitting the road since the Epping, Victoria-based company built its first caravan in 2009 (Bryan’s van is numbered #5050), he hopes to build the club’s membership to 500 owners.
Bryan said other events are also being planned for other states, including one in NSW in October and South Australia in November.
