New Age Caravans has well and truly jumped on the ‘smooth sides’ bandwagon, now offering three, full height caravan models – its range-topping Blue Diamond and popular Big Red and Oz Classic -- with smooth aluminium composite body panels.
Available in white and black as well as other colours including red, the new 4mm Alucobond-style aluminium composite panels for the sides and roof replace traditional 2mm aluminium ribbed cladding and checker plate, which is still used on New Age’s entry-level caravans as well as pop-top and expander models. However, unlike some of its big-selling rivals including Jayco, Supreme, Avan and Coromal, who have all been rolling out glossy, smooth-sided models that mimic the clean styling of European caravans, New Age has retained a traditional Meranti timber frame and polystyrene insulation for the upgraded models. As well as smooth sides, New Age has also introduced new layouts across both the Big Red and Oz Classic ranges, which are available in body sizes ranging from 17ft to 24ft, while the standard equipment list has also been boosted.
Both models now come standard with a host of luxury features including LED strip lighting, 28in Smart TV/DVD, ceramic basin, front loader washing machine, 184 litre fridge, A-frame toolbox and air conditioner, while the Oz Classic also gets an ironing board, oven, anti-theft system, RV Wi-Fi, electronic stability control, security safe, leather upholstery, and water filter as standard.
The top-spec, three tonne-plus 24ft Oz Classic takes it up a notch with a 7kg washing machine and four tonne rated DO45 off-road hitch included in the package.
Ten, two-berth layouts are available in total, with Tare weights for the Big Red between 2040kg and 2750kg, and the Oz Classic weighing in from 2470kg to 2940kg (Tare), depending on model. All offer mostly conventional layouts with queen bed, kitchen, lounge/dinette and full rear ensuite, although the 21ft Oz Classic does have two leather recliners in lieu of a café dinette.
New Age says the use of heavier aluminium composite panels and adding more standard features has increased Tare weights across the range.
Unlike main rival Jayco, New Age has not yet introduced digital switching ‘smart’ technology for its latest models, even as an option, although it does plan to offer it in the future.
Recommended retail pricing starts at $69,990 for the single axle 17ft Big Red van, topping out at $98,990 for the 24ft tandem axle Oz Classic.
Also new for 2017, the Epping, Victoria manufacturer has introduced a free, one-year 24 hour roadside assistance program for all buyers of New Age caravans. It covers things like flat tyres, lost keys, and emergency towing, and also includes a technical advice hotline, available during weekday business hours.
The new New Age Assist program can also be purchased by existing owners.
