New Age Caravans’ in-house ‘Gecko’ breeding program is in full swing, with the fast-growing Epping, Victoria-based manufacturer set to almost double the number of models available in its Gecko ‘expander’ range in coming months.
Introduced in early-2016, New Age’s range of Gecko models currently extends to six variants including a pint-sized 11ft rear door shower van, as well as 16ft, 18ft and 19ft long bunk ensuite models.
This will expand to 13 models by later this year with the introduction this month of new 12ft rear ensuite and 14ft bunk family models, both available as fixed-height or pop-top versions.
In coming months New Age will also roll out a new 17ft bunk ensuite model, also in van and pop-top versions.
While Jayco offers comparable options to most of these New Age Gecko models through its ‘Expanda’ range, New Age claims the size and layout of its new 12ft Gecko ensuite model is unique in the industry.
The 12ft ensuite van (pictured) comes standard with a fold-out queen bed, L-shaped lounge/dinette, kitchen with three-burner gas cooktop, microwave and 93 litre three-way fridge and full width rear ensuite with separate shower and toilet.
Other standard features include a Duragal chassis, leaf spring suspension, 50mm hitch, 80 litre water tank, hot water system, two 4.5kg gas bottles, audio unit, battery management system and roll-out awning.
Instead of an ensuite the 14ft Gecko models come with either two or three bunks (pictured) running across the rear.
Like
other Gecko models, the new variants can be optioned up with an Enduro pack which includes items like a DO35 coupling, extended A-frame, increased road clearance, Al-Ko Endurance coil suspension, 100Ah AGM battery, gas bayonet, picnic table, external speakers and checkerplate cladding.
Other options include an air-conditioner, house battery and TV.
Both the new 12ft and 14ft Geckoes are priced from $42,990 for fixed height versions, with the pop-tops starting at $45,990.
Weights for the fixed roof 14ft Gecko Ensuite are 150kg (ball weight Tare), 1590kg (Tare) and 1890kg (ATM).
With pricing starting around $40,000 the Gecko currently fills the position as the entry-level model in New Age’s line-up, although that should change later this year when New Age rolls out ‘MkII’ production versions of its new Road Tripper camper trailer -- around 12 months after it was first revealed. A growing part of New Age’s range, the Gecko is expected to account for around 15 per cent of New Age’s projected 2000-plus RVs built in 2017.
