Cheap as chips new MDC pop-top goes on sale

Big importer reckons its latest 11ft expander-van is Australia's best off-road couples hybrid for under $50,000

MDC has whipped the covers off the first variant in a new 2026-updated range of its popular Forbes off-road 'expander' pop-top.

MDC's General Manager – Commercial & Product, James Field, said the new MDC Forbes 11 is a completely new floorplan within the Forbes range, which has been around for a few years in various guises.

"Around 2020 we did have a Forbes 11TB (triple bunk) in the line-up, but this new model is a very different design focused on couples who want a compact off-road hybrid with full features," James explained.

Priced sharply at RRP$49,990, MDC says its new 11ft pop-top with slide-out rear bed "combines rugged off-road engineering with clever use of space and an impressive list of premium inclusions rarely seen in this class".

The off-road package includes a hot-dipped galvanised chassis, X-Track independent trailing arm coil suspension and mud terrain tyres, while the Forbes 11 also comes standard with Tuson stability control, a 270 degree awning and full annexe, water tanks, gas bottle holders and an external stainless steel kitchen with Thetford gas cooktop.

There's also a Projecta 12V power system with 200Ah lithium battery, 550W rooftop solar and 1600W pure sine wave inverter, while internal conveniences extend to a king size bed, a combination shower/sink/toilet, Truma Aventa air-conditioner, a diesel space heater, lounge/dinette, 12V fan, wireless charger and wardrobe storage.

It all adds up to a value-for-money package that MDC said makes the Forbes 11 "Australia's best off-road couples hybrid caravan for under $50K," the 20-year-old distributor of Chinese-built campers, hybrids and caravans claimed in a media release.

Despite its relatively compact size the new Forbes 11 pop-top hits the scales at close to two tonnes (approximately 1950kg Tare), with an ATM of 2500kg.

It's expected to be joined by other new or updated Forbes variants in 2026.

"We’re not calling it a full relaunch of the range, but the Forbes 11 does represent the next evolution of the Forbes series as we continue to expand and modernise the line-up," James said.

The MDC Forbes 11 will make its public debut at the Let’s Go Explore Caravan & RV Expo at Brisbane Showgrounds (October 30-November 2).
