New 48V off-grid power for Avida motorhomes

Big battery upgrades on selected models as Avida rolls out first gas-free motorised RVs in 60-year history

Sydney's Avida RV is offering bigger off-grid power systems, including new 48V set-ups, for a number of its MY26 campervans and motorhomes, as an increasing number of RV buyers seek to run more appliances for longer when travelling 'un-plugged' outside caravan parks.

The first gas-free range in its 60 year history, the new Avida E-models are available as an option on the Explorer LX, Trek, Escape and Diversion campervans, and the Fremantle LX motorhome. Avida says an E-model version of the range-topping Longreach LX motorhome is also coming in early 2026.

Ticking the gas-free option box for the campervan models adds $2500 to the price, and sees all LPG-related fixtures including gas bottles, hot water system, gas bayonet and gas cooker, replaced with electrical or diesel appliances including a diesel hot water unit and portable induction cooker.

Meanwhile, the new gas-free Fremantle LX E-motorhome will be fitted as standard with a new Victron 48V power system boasting a 10.2kWh battery pack, 5000VA inverter and 1000W rooftop solar -- another first for Avida.

"The 48V system is purely for the high-power devices such as the inverter, solar, DCDC and batteries," explained Avida’s Sales & Marketing Manager, Billy Falconer.

"The remainder of the electrical system is still 12V running the conventional lights, awnings, slide outs etc that people will be familiar with in Avida vehicles."

Falconer said buyers will also have the option to upgrade to a larger Power Generation Kit with 15.4 kWh battery (the equivalent of 1200Ah lithium batteries in 12V).

"This means that even without running the vehicle to supplement energy you can supply 1.5kW of power for almost 10 hours non-stop with the upgraded batteries, therefore, turning the vehicle on is only for handling energy depletion with long use without solar," he explained.

"Both (48V battery systems) will provide a better performance over a generator... the standard Power Generation 48V electrical system will allow the chassis engine to function roughly equivalent in capability to a 4.5kW peak power generator."

To get an idea of pricing for the latest Iveco-based Fremantle LX 48V motorhome, Avida's Melbourne dealer currently has one listed for sale with the Power Generation Kit upgrade, for $360,998 driveaway. The highly-specced unit comes standard with a 270L compressor fridge, diesel hot water/space heater, induction cooktop, multifunction microwave, washer/dryer, wine cooler, vacuum cleaner and three TVs.

“Avida has always been driven by innovation and durability,” Falconer said. “The rollout of our E-Model range marks an exciting new era where customers can explore further, stay off-grid longer, and travel more sustainably — without sacrificing the comfort or capability they expect from Avida.”
