Navara tops budget tow rankings
Nissan’s one-tonne pick-up rated best bang-for-bucks tow vehicleNissan's latest Navara D23 ute provides the best towing capacity relative to its purchase price, according to a 'real bang for bucks' pricing matrix compiled by vehicle pricing experts RedBook.
The boffins at RedBook assembled the table using a very simple process: divide the towing capacity of every new vehicle in the market by its purchase price expressed in thousands of dollars. Sort on the product from largest to smallest (towed payload for the price) and hey, presto... a winner.
With a 3500kg towing capacity (braked) and a price of $25,990, the winning D23 Navara was a single-cab model in 4x2 cab-chassis form, powered by the 2.3-litre turbo-diesel and running a six-speed manual transmission.
If that sounds 'affordable' (or 'cheap', to put it another way), that's what it takes to be the benchmark in this on-paper test.
Variants from the same model family with similar prices and specifications were removed from the results in order to present a broader picture across different brands and models.
