My Dream RV shuts factory doors
Four-year old Melbourne caravan manufacturer goes into liquidation, owing up to $3million to creditorsAnother Aussie caravan manufacturer has been forced to close its doors, with My Dream RV going into liquidation this week.
Altan Djenab of Wild Apricot Corporate Insolvency & Advisory Services has been appointed liquidator after members of My Dream Caravans Pty Ltd resolved at a general meeting on September 21 to wind up the company.
Businessman Mathew John along with co-founder Don Rafiq set up the My Dream RV caravan factory in Epping, Victoria in 2022. Early models stood out with their eye-catching rounded front, while more recently the brand dipped its toe in the big off-grid caravan market.
As well as having a regular presence at shows, the My Dream RV 'vans were sold at a variety of dealers; some of which no longer exist including Sydney's Everything RV and Parravans Caravan World.
Djenab said preliminary investigations indicate My Dream RV owes around $3million to creditors.
"As I was only appointed on Monday I don't know a lot at this stage. I'm still trying to put together the creditors listing and get a report out within 14 days," he said.
"The business had ceased trading before I was appointed, I don't know the circumstances surrounding that, I believe there were a number of employees terminated prior to the company ceasing."
Djenab said he has already received phone calls from customers waiting on undelivered 'vans, but was unsure of the extent of any outstanding deposits.
Meanwhile, the Dream Journey RV business set up by former My Dream RV employee Jinan Solafa, has also ceased trading.
Making their public debut at the Sydney Supershow in May, the Dream Journey RV 'vans at the time were brought in from China before final fit-out at the My Dream RV factory in Melbourne.
However, on Facebook earlier this month, Solafa said the two businesses no longer had any commercial ties before the decision was made to shut down Dream Journey RV.
"My priority now is to manage the closure of Dream Journey responsibly and communicate directly with our customers regarding anything that affects them," she said in a statement on September 4.
"To everyone who purchased a Dream Journey caravan, supported the business, worked with us, supplied us or simply believed in what I was trying to build — thank you."
