NSW's Mountain Trail RV will blur the line between off-road campers and caravans with its new XVR Hybrid Pod Camper that is set to go on sale early next year, initially priced from $89,990.
With its central focus on outside living, the lithium-powered and electronic air-sprung XVR is a light and nimble pod designed to sit behind a wide range of tow vehicles. Just 3485mm (11ft) long, but 1917mm wide and 2250mm high, with a Tare weight of 1540kg and a payload of 800kg, the XVR is also designed to fit in a standard garage.
Designed to be "the best off-road pod style camper on the market", the composite panel-bodied new model is also intended to provide an introduction to the full Mountain Trail range, that currently stretches to the full width 22ft LXV 6.7 caravan costing around $230,000.
The new XVR will features dual entry doors -- one on each side, with a step -- and a rear outdoor kitchen featuring a dual induction cooktop, a sink, and two stainless-steel drawers.
A 130-litre upright fridge, Redarc Redvision Total Vehicle Management System, 180 degree awning, 28in TV and 215 litres fresh water capacity, will also be part of the standard package.
The new pod camper will boast comfortable all-weather sleeping for two with room for a child at the bed end, and a queen-size pillow-top inner-spring bed that comes with 190 litres of slide-out under bed draw storage.
Additional storage is provided in the capacious A-frame mounted storage boot.
The XVR is designed for comfortable extended living in rough off-road terrain, with its electronic height-adjustable air suspension and a 300Ah lithium battery fed by 645 watts of rooftop solar panels linked to a 3000W pure sine wave inverter to power onboard appliances.
Given its off-road ability, electric dust suppression is standard.
There's no internal ensuite, but an external drop down shower unit including a portable toilet will be provided, along with diesel-powered space heating and air-conditioning.
It will be sold with a five year warranty on its chassis and in-house designed and manufactured suspension, plus a two-year factory warranty,
Mountain Trail Managing Director Nick Edwards says while the company has yet to build its first XVR, he expects a full national launch of the new model by February next year, after which its preferential pricing will rise to over $100,000.
With more than 70 enquiries already received, Edwards is convinced that the new model will be a winner.
“To some extent we have gone back to our camper trailer beginnings in 2007 and raised our sights,” he said. “Coming out of lockdown, it’s clearly what many customers are after.”
To take advantage of the pre-order price of $89,990, Mountain Trail requires a holding deposit of $10,000 prior to November 30. The deposit will lock in the pre-order price and also confirm a delivery date prior to 30th June 2024, provided that the order is confirmed prior to March 3, 2024.
Mountain Trail expects to have a production version of its XVR Pod camper on display at its Albury NSW showroom around mid-January 2024, and on show at the Victorian Caravan and Camping Supershow at the Melbourne Showgrounds from February 21-25.
