Mountain Trail boosts hybrid range

New single axle 17ft off-road model from premium NSW composite caravan builder

Albury, NSW luxury RV maker Mountain Trail has plugged a gap in its upmarket off-road hybrid caravan range with a new LXV 5.2 model that comes fully equipped with all the bells and whistles buyers now want for luxury off-grid camping.

Displayed at both the Melbourne and Sydney Caravan Supershows held this month, the new 17ft single axle LXV 5.2 caravan joins Mountain Trail’s five-model offroad hybrid line-up as a logical gap-filler between the single-axle entry model LXV 4.7 and the larger tandem axle LXV 5.7.

The new model can sleep a family of four in its front 6ft 8in-long east-west queen bed and by converting the face-to-face café dinette into a 6ft long child's bed, while another child can be accommodated in an optional bunk that can be rigged above the dinette.

Mountain Trail LXV 5.2 buyers have the choice of both indoor or outdoor cooking, with the combination of a stainless-steel external three-burner gas cooktop swinging out under the extra-large 4.5m x 2.4m electric awning, while inside an electric induction cooktop is an optional feature of the generous two metre-long kitchen bench with stainless sink.

Standard refrigeration is an external 95 litre slide-out fridge/freezer, while an optional 85 litre upright model is located in a rear-wall cupboard, next to the optional 2kg capacity front-loading washing machine.

The large combined shower and toilet ensuite is located in the rear corner of the van, opposite the sturdy Dometic rear entry door.

Befitting a luxury caravan, all of the new Mountain Trail model’s electrics are controlled by a Redarc RedVision hub, located in a dust and waterproof exterior hatch to the left of the entry door, and these functions are mirrored on a similar panel inside and can also be activated via a mobile phone App.

As you would expect from its designation, the new LXV 5.2 is well-suited to off-road travel, with standard multi ride-height adjustable independent airbag suspension with twin shock absorbers per wheel, while a positive dust suppression fan system is incorporated in the hybrid’s design.

A hot dipped galvanised steel chassis with fibreglass composite walls and laser-cut cabinetry are used to cope with rough Outback tracks and badly corrugated road conditions.

And once you’ve stopped for the night, the hybrid’s 360AH bank of lithium batteries, fed by 550AH of rooftop solar panels and with a 3000W pure sine wave inverter, come into play to maximise interior comfort.

The newest Mountain Trail is currently priced at $149,990 (price rise coming in July) and that is for delivery in February 2023.

Mountain Trail's Nick Edwards said they had sold a number of them since they were first displayed earlier this month at the Victorian Caravan Supershow and the new model is on its way to becoming Mountain Trail’s most popular model.
