Motorhome market really heating up

New motorised RV numbers double in latest monthly data report for Australia

Buyer interest in motorised RVs continues to grow in Australia, judging by the latest August 2026 RAV (Register of Approved Vehicles) data reported by GoRV.

August entries for motorhomes and campervans jumped a massive 100% year-on-year, rising from 191 vehicles last year to 383 this August. This brings the YTD total for motorised RVs to 2773 for the first eight months of the year, with Jayco leading the named motorised makes at 767 entries.

Next on the list is Avida (387), followed by Avan (264). Sydney's Trakka (26) and Queensland's Explorer (15) also had strong months in August, based on the figures.

The boost in motorhome entries means motorized RVs now comprise close to 10 per cent of the market; a figure that both Jayco's Gerry Ryan and Snowy River Caravans CEO Andrew Crank predict will rise to as much as 20 per cent in the short term.

Both Jayco and Snowy River rolled out new entry-level, sub-$140K models at this year's Melbourne Leisurefest, including Destiny motorhome and JRV campervan models based on the latest Renault Master, and a gas-free 48V SRM-22 model based on the LDV Deliver 9.

Overall, 30,724 RVs were entered onto the register between January and August 2026, including 27,951 towables and 2773 motorised RVs.

Jayco maintains a commanding YTD lead in the towable category with 3705 entries, followed by imported brands Snowy River (2101), Austrack (2076), MDC (1749) and Ezytrail (1614).

Overall, monthly entries for towables were down 15.5% year-on-year, to 3231.

The road ahead

The drop in towables, and growth in motorhomes, has coincided with an increasing number of caravan manufacturers rolling out new motorhome models, often for the first time.

40-year old Supreme Caravans followed up the release of its first-ever motorhomes earlier this year with new Fiat Ducato-based FT campervans at the 2026 Melbourne Leisurefest. While Melbourne's Grand Caravans also rolled out a new Fiat-based Cosmo campervan at the same show.

After 50 years building caravans, Melbourne manufacturer Royal Flair produced its first campervan last year, while the Melbourne-based JB Group continues to roll out new driveable models as well as new caravans, including a just-announced new Renault Master-based campervan under its Traveller caravan brand.
