For decades Cub Campers has been best known for its affordable Aussie-built hard-floor campers. But times are changing, with the 57-year old Sydney manufacturer unveiling its first tandem axle caravan, and by far most upmarket model to date, at this week's 2025 NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow.
The new tandem axle, 2.25m wide, 5.4m (18ft internal body length) Cub C18 full composite off-road caravan is available in two variants: the C18 Standard from $124,990 (or $15,000 less than current pricing for the smaller Cub C16 caravan), rising to $164,980 for the C18 Platinum.
The optioned up C18 Platinum display model at Rosehill Racecourse has a price tag of about $173,000, according to Cub Camper’s NSW State Manager, Matt Kenelly.
As far as weights go, the C18 Standard has a Tare of 2458kg and a 200kg towball download, while the C18 Platinum weighs in unloaded at 2743kg (with a 230kg ball weight). The ATM for both is 3500kg, providing a decent payload of at least 700kg for both variants. Internal height is also a generous 2.04m.
Like Cub's other hybrid caravans, the new C18 is fully built at the Sydney factory using fibreglass insulated sandwich panels for the floor, walls and roof, along with a galvanised steel chassis.
Both C18 variants include a 175L Thetford fridge/freezer, 5.1m electric awning, Ark off-road jockey wheel and stone guards, a Fusion stereo with four speakers, an Eberspacher hot water and space heater, wall-mounted washing machine, outside shower and an external kitchen with stainless steel sink, dual drawers and a fridge slide.
The Cub Campers C18 Standard gets an AL-KO off-road ball hitch and Cruisemaster ATX Coil suspension, a 300Ah lithium battery system with 360W solar panels, and 100L fresh water and 100L grey water tanks.
The Cub C18 Platinum, which comes in a grey external finish instead of the Standard’s white, takes it up a notch or two, with Cruisemaster ATX 4.5T adjustable ride-height airbag suspension and a DO-35 coupling, a 900Ah lithium battery system with 3000W inverter and 1080W solar panels, and 200L fresh water capacity.
Other upgrades or extras on the C18 Platinum include an external induction cooker and internal 900watt microwave, Yokohama X-AT tyres, bedside wireless phone chargers, Starlink RJ45 Data Access Socket, Slumberest Healthy Rest mattress, a 3.5kW Eberspacher air conditioner, two Sirocco fans, Hummingbird GPS, 32in Smart TV, Redarc Redvision display, external floodlights, electronic stability control and a rear camera.
Both Standard and Platinum share the same internal layout, comprising a north-south front bed (2.1m x 1.6m), centre kitchen and L-shape dinette, and a rear bathroom with separate shower and toilet. Cub Campers says to ‘watch this space’ for an upcoming bunk version.
There are two extra-cost Off Grid packs to choose from for the C18 Standard, which boosts its off-grid power capacity, and also Technology packs bundling the Redarc inverter, TVMS and rear camera.
The Cub Campers C18 hybrid caravan is Cub’s sixth hybrid caravan model in less than three years since the first Cub Campers C16 arrived. This new range-topping Cub caravan marks the eclipse of Cub’s more traditional tent trailer offerings (currently five models), and points to a new direction for the long-standing family-owned business: high-end hybrid caravans.
