The engineering and design influence of new owner Walkinshaw continues at New Age, with the big-selling Melbourne RV manufacturer pulling the covers off the latest Walkinshaw-enhanced New Age Big Red caravans at the 2019 NSW Caravan, Camping and Holiday Supershow.
Like the 2019 Oz Classic and Desert Rose models unveiled at this year’s Melbourne Supershow, the two new 19ft (slide-out) and 20ft Big Red ensuite vans have benefitted from Walkinshaw upgrades, including a Walkinshaw engineered 150mm galvanized steel chassis and spare wheel recessed into a distinctive Wayfinder-style rear moulding.
The new Big Red vans also get new external and internal Fusion sounds panels plus two 100 litre fresh water tanks, 110 litre grey water tank and an external shower.
The 19ft layout includes a slide-out, east-west queen bed with front club lounge, kitchen galley and full width rear ensuite, while the 20ft layout has a more conventional front north-south queen bed with cafe dinette, kitchen and rear ensuite.
Priced at $83,950, the 19ft Big Red Slider display van in Sydney featured smooth, Brilliant White 3mm Alucobond front and rear exterior panels, with ‘Hi Profile’ aluminium cladding and ‘Raven Coat’ trim for the sides, over an insulated Meranti timber body frame.
Among a long list of standard features including a 100Ah battery, 150W solar panel, BMPro Odyssey touchscreen, 180 litre three way fridge, wall-mounted washing machine, and roof-mounted air conditioner, the 19ft Big Red Slider also features two TVs; a 40in Smart TV/DVD mounted on an electric slide facing the bed, and a 28in Smart TV/DVD mounted on an arm inside the entry door.
Fitted with a 50mm ball hitch, leaf spring suspension, two 9kg gas bottles and a front toolbox, the tandem axle touring model had a plated Tare of 2650kg, with a 3250kg ATM and 200kg (Tare) ball mass.
Also displayed by New Age Sydney at the Supershow was a new range-topping 21ft family bunk layout for the popular Road Owl touring range.
The spacious layout included a front north-south queen bed, L-shaped dinette and kitchen, and double bunks and separate shower and toilet at the rear.
Priced at $69,990, the well-equipped family van on display was optioned up with both Comfort Plus and Adventurer Plus packs, which added 12 additional features in total including a bigger 184 litre fridge, second 110 litre water tank, 150W solar panel, black wheels and external shower.
The new timber framed/aluminium clad 21ft Road Owl family van equipped with a 50mm ball hitch and AL-KO IRS suspension, had a plated Tare of 2410kg, 3019kg ATM and 190kg (Tare) ball mass.
