More South African campers arrive

Clever folding Bushwakka camper joins multi-purpose Venter trailers as latest imports from South Africa

An innovative South African camper that combines the convenience of a roof-top tent with the practicality of a camper trailer, will make its Australian debut at the National 4x4 and Outdoors Show in Brisbane next week.

The Bushwakka Fox Trot off-road camper will be one of a number of South African-built trailers displayed by Queensland’s Wolf 4x4, which also imports the well-regarded South African-built Venter trailers.

With a relatively light Tare of 650kg and substantial 850kg payload, the boxy Fox Trot camper features a clever, hardtop roof mechanism that folds out on both sides to form two single beds.

A compact seating and standing area in the middle, under the canvas roof, is easily converted to a double bed at night, to create four berths in total.

Made of electro-galvanised steel, the high-sided Fox Trot is designed for on-the-go, outback touring and offers quick set-up of around 10 minutes, according to the YouTube video below.

Other features include drop-down entry steps and a substantial slide-out kitchen at the rear, and like most South African campers, there are numerous compartments and handy storage areas for all your gear.

Wolf 4x4 will also display two trailers from the 54-year-old Venter brand at the Brisbane show: the Super 6 leisure trailer, a streamlined, all-purpose enclosed unit with a Tare mass of 180kg and 540kg payload, and the compact, semi off-road Savuti sport trailer, available with optional roof-top tent, which has a Tare of 280kg and payload of 470kg.

Rob Goldie from Wolf 4x4 said the Venter range is a cut above many other similar, lightweight multi-purpose trailers available in Australia.

”There are obviously a lot of trailer products in the market, but this is superior quality, it’s not just a standard Chinese cheap trailer,” he says.

“It comes in fully galvanised, so it’s not going to rust or corrode, it’s strongly built, it’s going to last.”

The Venter Super 6 is priced at $2350, while the Savuti retails for $3850, without the tent or any other accessories.

With only two Bushwakka display models in Australia, Mr Goldie couldn’t provide Australian pricing yet, but in South Africa the Fox Trot retails for R103,500, or $11,173, so expect it to cost here a few thousand dollars above that.

The South African trailers are available online with delivery Australia-wide, or Wolf 4x4 has showrooms currently in Western Australia and Queensland.

As well as being on display at the National 4x4 & Outdoors Show at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds from March 15-17, the Venter and Bushwakka trailers can be seen at the Queensland Caravan, Camping and Touring Holiday Show from June 5-11.
