More six tonne Kedron caravans coming

Queensland manufacturer working on new tandem axle 6000kg rated caravan with 1000 litre plus water storage

If you think Kedron's six tonne ATM rated triple axle caravans are impressive, the innovative Queensland manufacturer is currently working on a tandem axle version that's set to raise the bar again on what an off-grid luxury caravan can offer.

After rolling out its first 'six tonner' van in 2019, Kedron recently posted a video on social media of its fourth tri-axle 26ft TopEnder TE’7 off-road couple's van complete with ADR-approved, 6000kg ATM rated chassis incorporating fully adjustable airbag suspension and truck air brakes.

Custom built for a Victorian couple who are towing it with their fully kitted-out Chevrolet Silverado pick-up, Kedron's latest six-wheel monster also stands out for its super-sumptuous, apartment-style layout including front 'bedroom' with walk-around king bed and in-built 55in TV, that represents another first for the 60-year old family caravan business.

However, the high-profile Aussie caravan builder is not resting on its laurels, with Kedron’s Glen Gall telling caravancampingsales that it's about to produce another Australian RV industry first: a six tonne ATM-rated tandem axle van 'with the lot'.

"(We've) also been working on a tandem to achieve standalone payload, water, power storage and solar input capacities for the new owners," Gall said.

"With the design registrations, including the air brakes into swing-arm suspension to go above the 4.5 tonne, it should keep it unique for quite some time too."

The new van might also set a new record for its over-the-top water carrying capacity.

"With the increased payload, the chassis has been developed to support two 500 litre  custom-made alloy baffled water tanks for over a thousand litres of shower water, in addition to the food grade rotomolded drinking water," he said.

"Power storage is the other main development, (as it) will feature over 1200 amps of lithium, with 3 x 400 amp (batteries) steel encased with an internal BMS (battery management system)."

Kedron is also planning to take the latest trend of automated roof-mounted solar panel slide-outs, already seen on locally built Royal Flair and Kokoda models, to another level.

"We have been working for many years on slide-out solar, with multiple extrusions, rams, locking, and testing with many prototypes, and have developed a system that will allow for 2560 watts of solar... with press button, or smart phone switching to operate and unlock," Gall explained.

While other Kedron innovations will include "compression hatch and reverse lights (that are) Bluetooth controlled from the tow vehicle and can turn the van's exterior lights on when reversing into a site at night, (along with) security cameras and monitoring with Starlink connection…" he said.

Kedron is also preparing for a not too distant future of complete 'electrification', when customers will demand full integration with their battery powered or hybrid tow vehicle.

"The next stage of development is our PowerShare with EVs (electric vehicles); the first stage is to integrate a charger for a second runaround vehicle," he said.

Gall said the bespoke tandem axle chassis was currently in production, with the custom built 6000kg ATM caravan expected to be completed over a three month period, and delivered to the customer before the end of the year.
