Queensland’s SLRV is putting the finishing touches on two of its latest custom-built monster motorhomes produced at its Gold Coast factory.
Painstakingly built over many months for a US-based customer, the SLRV Freightliner 4x4 expedition vehicle incorporates a three-point torsion-free subframe and 5.2m long composite motorhome body with a custom floorplan featuring an electric lift-up bed over a club lounge to maximise interior space.
It comes ‘fully loaded’ with a range of 110V domestic appliances, along with a next-level off-grid power system including 1380Ah lithium batteries, Mastervolt 6000W inverter, a truck charging system, and 1.2kW rooftop solar with a 100A solar charger.
Other highlights include 600L of water storage, front and rear 25,000lb winches, an SLRV Expedition roof rack and bullbar, and KCT double-glazed glass windows.
The left-hand drive Freightliner M2 106 4x4 medium-duty truck-based motorhome is the second RV that SLRV has built for the US market, with the first in 2021 based on an ex-military Acela 6x6 truck.
Meanwhile, SLRV is currently finishing off the interior fit-out on another ‘mammoth build’: a Tatra Phoenix 8x8 motorhome based on a Czech Republic-built off-road truck supplied by Perth-based OffRoad Trucks Australia.
Described as a “purpose built, off-road expedition monster capable of tackling the toughest terrain”, the SLRV Tatra 8x8 boasts a “PACCAR MX engine, Allison transmission and a comfortable and modern DAF cabin”, with the complex interior fit-out currently being completed at SLRV's Gold Coast factory.
“The driving force behind this 8×8 is the use of central load-carrying tubes and axles with independently suspended swinging half axles bolted together into a single unit,” SLRV said on its website.
“The half axles move freely, which enables the rest of the truck to remain stable, and take on the toughest terrain without losing traction, while still maintaining a constant speed.
“This also ensures maximum cabin comfort with minimal movement felt, allowing the driver to enjoy working behind the wheel.”
The million-dollar plus SLRV Tatra 8x8 is not the first locally built Tatra expedition vehicle, after Queensland's OffRoad RVs put one on the road in late-2021.
In recent years Queensland’s SLRV has developed a worldwide reputation for building some of the most luxurious and desirable off-road truck motorhomes, including the jaw-dropping $2 million two-storey, MAN 8x8 motor-mansion that almost broke the internet after it went viral in 2019.
It’s also one of the new Australian dealers for the INEOS Grenadier hardcore 4x4 wagon launched overseas recently and set to arrive in Australia in coming months.
