More homegrown models from Avan

Big-selling Victorian manufacturer releases two new Golf caravans and Ovation motorhome

Despite becoming the Australian ‘face’ of Germany’s Knaus caravans, Avan continues to roll out new, fully Australian-built models at a frenetic pace under its Avan and Golf brand names.

Priced at a very competitive show price of $41,990 tow away – not that much more than a top-of-the-range Golf Challenger camper trailer – the 1390kg, 130kg ball weight, four-metre long Golf Savannah 402HT caravan at this year’s Melbourne Leisurefest is the full height caravan version of the 402 Pop-Top released earlier this year and features a similar compact layout.

Other standard kit includes independent suspension, air conditioning, an interior cooktop and fridge, plus a separate slide-out kitchen and slide out drawer fridge, gas-electric hot water, a 120 watt solar package, TV/DVD entertainment pack with internal and external speakers, stone guard protection and a heavy-duty tow hitch.

Given its tiny footprint there’s no internal ensuite, instead there’s a hatch under the east-west double bed to store a small portable toilet, plus an exterior shower with standard shower tent.

Also new from Golf at Leisurefest was the larger 5.8 metre long Savannah 578 HT caravan, offered at a show price of $59,990 tow away.

This spacious full height single axle off-road caravan weighs just 1640kg, making it towable by many compact 4WDs, yet comes with an internal shower/toilet, queen bed, 120 watt solar package, slide out kitchen and draw fridge, an entertainment package and top-loading washing machine.

Meanwhile, the Avan Ovation M8 C Class Motor Home released at Leisurefest combines the best features of larger mobile homes at a very competitive price.

The new model’s main attraction is its new rear electric double-bed slide-out that gives the interior nearly a metre more of living space, with room for a good-sided kitchen, a roomy shower-toilet ensuite and a front café dinette behind the Fiat Ducato’s walk-through cabin.

Costing $143,111 as displayed, the new Ovation also comes standard with an 80 watt solar panel, a second battery, a Webasto diesel heater and a reversing camera.
