More big-buck off-grid caravans coming

It shouldn't be long before $300,000 caravans are available from multiple brands

It wasn't that long ago that $100,000 was a lot to pay for a caravan. Then with the rise of off-grid caravans, it became a lot easier to spend $200,000 or more on a top-spec model from any number of Australian caravan manufacturers.

There are currently more than 20 caravans for sale at $200,000-plus on caravancampingsales, representing a variety of brands including Mountain Trail, Titanium, CRZRVAN, Royal Flair, Vacationer, Sunland, Roadstar, Bushtracker, Legend and Lyfe RV (now owned by Titanium).

But how long will it take before buyers barely batter an eyelid at the sight of a $300,000-plus price tag for a full off-grid, uber-luxury Aussie caravan?

Brisbane-built Bruder EXP-8 now starts at an eye-watering $343K

Expedition trailer specialist Bruder set the ball rolling in 2023 with its $299,000 EXP-8 (now priced from $343,000). While the latest top-spec off-grid Summit van from fellow Queensland caravan manufacturer Zone RV isn't far behind, with a starting price of $267,000.

There's a fair chance the bespoke CRZRVAN K2 with its unique pop-top bedroom would also be knocking on the door of the $300,000 caravan club, with its impressive off-grid power set-up that alone would be worth close to $50,000.

CRZRVAN K2 is one of the most expensive vans ever built down under

Order one of the amazing six-tonne Kedron caravans today, and you'd also probably expect little change from $300K.

Hitched to an obligatory Landcruiser or large American tow tug, they represent a $400-$450,000 on-road investment, rivalling that of the latest crop of expedition motorhomes.

Here are five of the priciest 'full fruit' caravans currently advertised on caravancampingsales...

Legend Groundbreaker Ultimate 48V is a caravan with the lot

Legend Groundbreaker Ultimate

The Melbourne builder pulled out all stops with its Groundbreaker Ultimate 48V, launched to celebrate Legend's 15 Anniversary in 2023.

With a spec list as long as your arm, there's little missing on this off-grid beast of a caravan, right down to the 15kWh EcoFlow Power Hub which includes a 3600W inverter and seven 200W roof-top solar panels; leaving enough space on the roof for a Carafan dust reduction unit and RV Wi-Fi receiver.

Best news is it's been reduced to $209,000, with a wait time of around six months.

Bushtracker vans on display at a show

Bushtracker 20ft

No list of premium-priced Aussie caravans is complete without a Bushtracker, and this custom built 20ft show van is packed with goodies including an 800ah lithium battery system with 1750W rooftop solar, a 224L compressor fridge, slide-out external kitchen and Cruisemaster ATX airbag suspension. It's no lightweight at 3300kg (Tare) and 4495kg (ATM), but comes with the sweetener of a pre-Xmas special price of $239,950 tow-away..

Titanium build some of Australia's most desirable off-road vans

Titanium S4 ATX

Family vans don't come much better than this 24ft bunk-bed beauty from one of the rising stars in the Melbourne off-road caravan manufacturing hub. Aside from all the Wolf fabricated exterior add-ons, the top-spec Titanium family van gets extras like an interior gold pack, Starlink provision, ATX airbag suspension, disc brakes, a 660Ah lithium battery system with 1200W rooftop solar, and 450L water storage. This one is available for immediate delivery, priced at $225,000.

Royal Flair built its first Eco Mate in 2021

Royal Flair Eco Mate

Royal Flair has come a long way since it first started building caravans almost 50 years ago, and a good example is this top-spec 19ft 6in Eco Mate family van. Based on the Royal Flair Aussiemate, it gets extras like X-Guard external protection, a dust reduction system, 600Ah lithium battery system with 840W rooftop solar (including two solar panel slide-outs), plus a flash interior fit-out including rear club lounge with drop down parents' bed.

Royal Flair calls it the "ultimate in off-grid luxury" and priced at $209,990 tow-away, who are we to argue?

Sunland Phoenix has been updated for 2024

Sunland Phoenix X

This is one of the latest vans from the renowned Queensland manufacturer, after it changed hands in 2023. The 21ft 6in full composite, full off-road van comes loaded up with features including disc brakes and Cruisemaster Level 4 XT airbag suspension, a big off-grid power system, motion sensor lights and stone benchtops. Priced at $205,990 tow-away, it's also backed by a five year structural warranty.

Mountain Trail is leading the way in timber-free caravan construction

Mountain Trail LXV 6.7

This fully self contained, all-electric Mountain Trail 22ft couple's van comes optioned up with a 4000kg ATM upgrade, Xenolith stone bench tops and an external swing kitchen with upper pantry, for its asking price of $203,725.

Among a long list of other features are 1075 watts of rooftop solar feeding into a 600Ah lithium battery pack that together with a 3000watt inverter, should be enough to run the washing machine, air conditioner, induction cooktop and other on-board appliances, without having to plug in at the park.
