Mini Review: Sunliner EuroSpa

Long-term touring couples, take note of this motorhome

A very experienced manufacturer of campervans and motorhomes, Sunliner makes everything from Ford Transit pop-tops to luxury 30ft (9.1m) B class motorhomes. Luxurious and well appointed interiors are a hallmark of the Sunliner range.

The EuroSpa is a 25ft 7in (7.8m) motorhome, and like much of the mid-sized Sunliner range, it is based on a European light-commercial truck, in this case the Italian Iveco Daily 50C18. Powered by a 3L turbodiesel engine with a six-speed automated-manual transmission (AMT), the Iveco Daily handles the 3820kg Tare weight of the EuroSpa without any problems. We particularly like the very direct steering of the Iveco. Although our preference is for a manual gearbox, we found the AMT a relatively smooth unit.

In keeping with most of the Sunliner range, the body construction is a fiberglass-composite structure, with moulded fibreglass used back and front. The nose cone gives a streamlined look to the EuroSpa, and at the rear the usually boxy look is taken away by the moulded bumper bar (complete with tail lights) with an air scoop on the top edge.

The hopper windows and door are all Dometic or Seitz items. In addition to the nearside battery bin, offside external shower and gas-cylinder locker, there are two external storage bins on the nearside. The rear bin is under the main bed and is fairly large.

Other nearside fittings include the awning, wall and grab handle lights, plus external speakers from the sound system.

Inside, a fairly traditional layout has been adopted, with a lounge/dinette behind the driver's seat, kitchen along the mid-nearside wall and bedroom in the back. Many bedrooms incorporate a bathroom and this one is full-width across the rear.

The internal decor is the light-hue curved timber look. All the windows have integrated blinds and insect screens. Except for those in kitchen and bathroom, all the windows have curtains and pelmets.

The roof of the driver's cab has been cut out, so getting between the cab and motorhome isn't difficult. The passenger seat swivels around, and above the cab are storage lockers on both sides and a centrally-mounted flatscreen TV.

Behind the driver's seat is a four-person dinette with high-backed seats on both sides, and a seat belt on the rear seat. The table is fitted to a wall rail and can be slid from side to side.

The usual storage area is under the lounge seating, and large overhead lockers are along the wall above the large window. Halogen reading lights are fitted under the overhead lockers for each seat, in addition to a centrally-mounted slimline fluorescent.

The kitchen bench contains a three-burner cooktop and sink, all in stainless steel. There isn't a drainer and there also isn't much benchtop working space, but a hinged flap at the end of the bench does improve this situation.

The under-bench storage area has six drawers of various sizes and a small slide-out pantry. Above the kitchen bench are two overhead lockers and a rangehood above the cooktop. Between the kitchen bench and the rear bedroom is the rest of the catering department, incorporating a Dometic 150L fridge and microwave above.

The bedroom has large windows. The innerspring mattress sits across the motorhome, with the bedhead against the nearside wall. There are three overhead lockers and lifting the bed gives access to the storage area underneath, also accessible via an external bin door. Sliding and concertina doors on both sides of the bedroom give privacy.

The bathroom contains a shower cubicle on the nearside, Thetford cassette toilet on the offside and vanity in the middle. The vanity cabinet is an elaborate setup, incorporating a two-door cupboard under the sink and curved benchtop along the rear wall.

While the Sunliner EuroSpa is perhaps somewhat compressed in the kitchen and dinette area, the layout has a permanent rear bed and a full-size bathroom.

The internal fitout and cabinetry is appealing, and the large windows give the motorhome a spacious feel.
