Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off a new battery-powered compact campervan which is set to go on sale in Europe around late-2023.
The Concept EQT Marco Polo1 camper is based on the all-electric, long wheelbase EQV panel van and according to the German manufacturer will provide a "simple solution for the all-electric camping trip (of the future)".
The camper features a pop-top roof and can sleep up to four people on a rooftop bed and a second, fold-out sleeping area.
Other features apart from internal seating and storage drawers include a washing area, 16-litre fridge box, a fold-out table, ambient lighting, electrical sockets, external awning, internal black-out blinds, and an induction and gas cooker.
When not camping Mercedes says the interior furniture is easily removed within five minutes, so the van can be used for picking up Ikea furniture, carrying bikes or other weekday tasks.
The EV campervan also comes with a rooftop solar panel and removable battery for off-grid camping. Pricing is yet to be announced but it should cost a lot more than the entry-level EQV van priced from €49,000 (around $AUD76,000).
The 'Benz camper runs a 90kW/245Nm e-motor powered by a 45kWh lithium-ion battery which Mercedes says will charge from 10-80 percent in 38 minutes using an 80kW DC charger.
"In the second half of 2023, we plan to expand our (EQV) range even further with a fully-fledged and also fully electric micro camper," Mercedes-Benz said.
