The Melbourne retail outlet for US-built Cell Caravans, as well as Perth-built Coromal and Windsor caravans, has shut its gates.
The family owned and operated business behind Cell Caravans and the Melbourne Caravan Centre located at 40 Hume Highway in Somerton, appears to have hit financial troubles, announcing in a recorded phone message that “Unfortunately we are no longer trading. Anyone who is owed money will be contacted in due course.”
There’s also a message on the Cell Caravans website: “We are sorry to announce that the bank has decided to close (the business) down and lock the gates for Cell Caravans and Melbourne Caravan Centre.”
Both Cell Caravans, which began in 2010, and the Melbourne Caravan Centre which opened in 2015, were still listed as registered companies on the ASIC website after the announcement was made.
As recently as last week there was a Melbourne Caravan Centre display of Coromal, Windsor and Cell Caravans at the Victorian Caravan Supershow, and the Melbourne outlet was still listed online as Coromal’s Melbourne dealer after the announcement. However, all available stock had been deleted from both the Cell and Melbourne Caravan Centre websites.
Founded by Graeme Ryland and his sons in 2010, Cell sourced its unique range of Australian-spec caravans from America and at one stage claimed to be selling more than 100 vans a year. It’s believed a buyer was being sought for Cell Caravans in recent times.
