After months of lockdown and harsh 'ring of steel' restrictions, Melbourne residents are now free to travel and stay throughout Victoria's regions, with cross-border travel on the cards for later this month.
However, that doesn't mean all Victoria's caravan and camping hot spots will be open for the summer season, with the Mornington Peninsula Shire recently deciding to postpone camping along the popular natural foreshore reserves in Rosebud, Rye and Sorrento until February 2021.
Mornington Peninsula Shire CEO John Baker said ongoing COVID-19 restrictions would not make it "feasible to have foreshore camping" in the forseeable future.

“Even as we hopefully move from Step 3 into the last step of the roadmap and then Covid normal, social distancing, density quotients, group sizes and a range of other measures will still be required," he said.
“One of our major concerns is the transmission risk from people having to use the shared toilet and shower amenity blocks."
He said the foreshore areas usually occupied by campers will still be open to the public for picnics and other outdoor activities. The camping spaces can also be used by beach-goers as overflow spaces to maintain social distancing requirements when beaches are particularly busy.
The Shire said it will provide an update on the reopening of foreshore camping in January.
