Brisbane-based Market Direct Campers is making a big play for North American RV buyers, with the launch of a new top-spec 19ft 'Extreme Edition' off-road caravan that's designed to cope with sub-zero temperatures.
Similar to the latest MKIII ACPLUS off-road caravans sold in Australia, the new US-market XT19HRT Off-grid Extreme Edition hardtop off-road caravan is loaded up with off-grid power including 1225W rooftop solar feeding a 800Ah lithium battery system with a 3000W inverter, and rides on MDC's X-Track trailing arm coil suspension with the Trail-Assure anti-sway system.
However, where it largely differs from the Aussie versions is the fitment of MDC USA’s cold weather pack which includes a Truma air-conditioner and space heater, along with other essential items for sub-zero 'Fish House' adventures including water tank heating pads, water heater and toilet anti-freeze capability, insulated water lines, a wet bay with interior space heating, batteries with self-heating function and dual pane windows.
MDC Founder, Vaughan Hindley said the new 19ft range-topper has been real-world tested in harsh environments including Moab Utah and the Australian Outback, and is “our best US model series yet, boasting eye-watering off-grid capabilities coupled with unrivalled functionality and luxury”.
Appliance wise, it gets a large compressor fridge-freezer, an external cooktop and electric cooler slide, oven and microwave, while the contrasting interior decor theme includes oak timber-style laminated bench and countertop finishes, gloss grey cabinetry, and black sinks, faucets (taps), and fixtures.
After selling around 40,000 Chinese-built campers and hybrids down under since 2005, MDC set up its California-based MDC USA arm in 2021 and it now has 17 dealers across North America which offer eight models from the 30-plus model, Australian MDC catalogue.
The XT19HRT Off-Grid Extreme Edition is retailing for USD$120,000 (AUD$178K) and is available for pre-order from US-based dealers. It will also be on display at the RV Dealers Association Convention in Las Vegas from November 11–15.
