Melbourne's Lotus Caravans has fleshed out its Off Grid off-road caravan range with a 16ft 9in (5.1 metre body length), two-berth single-axle layout model, making for a total of seven versions of its popular off-road, full-height van.
The new Lotus made its debut at last week’s Sydney Caravan Expo and is similar to the 15-foot layout. However, the additional length allows more room between the front island bed and the centrally located kitchen (offside) and dinette (nearside).
Key Off Grid features included in the new 16ft 9in model are the G&S chassis, DO-35 coupling, full underbody protection, 12-inch off-road electric drum brakes, 17in alloy wheels, and Control Rider independent coil-spring suspension with dual shocks per wheel.
The new Off Grid model also comes with an external awning, TV, audio unit with external speakers, slide-out kitchen and BBQ, two 150watt solar panels, two 120A/h house batteries, 25Amp charger, a bike rack holder for three bikes, a rear firewood box and a toilet /shower ensuite.
Two 95-litre fresh water tanks are also standard, as are two 4.5kg gas bottles.
As displayed at the Expo with optional 110-litre grey water tank and wood cage mounted at the rear, the 16ft 9in Off Grid was $79,995 drive away.
The new model has a Tare of 2300kg and ATM is 2690kg. Towball download mass is 190kg at Tare.
The Off Grid first appeared in 2016 as a compact model aimed at owners of lighter 4WDs and the range of 14-foot and 15-foot single-axle models was joined late last year by a 19-foot four-berth tandem-axle van.
