A European manufacturer has come up with a stunning, modern take on the traditional teardrop trailer.
Although a few manufacturers including Little Guy have produced interesting variations on the teardrop theme, a style which has been around for about 80 years, the Camp Runner Rush with its aerodynamic curves really brings the tiny caravan into the 21st century.
Designed in Slovakia, the Rush features a curvaceous, fibreglass shell, with matching ovoid, dark tinted windows and modern graphics.
It weighs just 230kg, which means the two-berth van can be towed by pretty much any car, and Camp Runner claims that it will use 50 per cent less fuel when towing, compared with a full-size van.
But unlike many other teardrop vans, the Rush has no rear galley kitchen or side door. Inside, there’s enough room for a double mattress (6ft 6in x 3ft 10in) plus a few cubby holes for storage, a reading light and electric ventilation fan running off 12V electrics.
Although available in Europe as well as the UK, where it sells for £4250 ($6600), there’s no indication yet of the Rush being sold Down Under, although the manufacturer does say it is looking for new distributors and dealers.
In the UK there’s also a Splash DLX, which is 30kg heavier due to the thicker 1.5mm bodyshell, and features shock absorbers and brakes for an extra £450. Other options available include a bike rack and roof rack.
