Little caravan big on features

Jurgens new Sungazer squeezes full ensuite with separate shower and toilet into compact layout

Struggling to find a full ensuite caravan but in a compact format capable of being towed by a family sedan? Jurgens Caravans Australia may have a solution with the introduction of its latest, lightweight Sungazer J1901.

The 16ft 5in (5.04m) long Sungazer is the smallest traditional caravan in the Jurgens range but offers many of the features of the company’s larger caravans, according to Jurgens Australia’s Diana Stewart-Jones

“The advantage of this is people can have all the modern things you get on a bigger van,” said Stewart-Jones. “The Sungazer has the full ensuite, the same size ensuite as other (bigger) Jurgens caravans.”

With a tare of 1240kg, the two-berth Sungazer can be towed by a range of family vehicles including mid-sized SUVs and sedans.

“It allows people with vehicles like Hyundais and Outbacks to tow something like this,” she said.

Despite its compact dimensions, the interior layout includes a separate shower alongside a toilet and basin, and full kitchen complete with stove and grill, microwave, fridge/freezer and hot and cold running water.

The two single beds/sofas divided by an extension table can be easily converted to a double bed if required.

“Inside they’ve done away with the table and lounge chairs you get in the bigger models, and put in a table that folds out by the bed that gives you the opportunity to sit on the bed with cushions behind you and still have table space,” Stewart-Jones said.

The Sungazer’s large front and side windows allow plenty of light to filter in to “give you that feeling that you’re not cramped”, she said.

The new model attracted plenty of interest at the recent Leisurefest show in Melbourne, where it was part of the Springvale Caravan Centre display.

Show attendees could take advantage of a ‘show special’ where they could buy a Sungazer complete with reverse cycle air conditioning and a roll out awning for $39,990, a saving of almost $5000.
