A new range of European micro-light full composite caravans capable of being towed behind smaller SUVs and sedans has been released in Australia.
Italian-built Wingamm caravans were previously sold by Melbourne's Roma Caravans, but are now being distributed in Australia by Little Gem Caravans, a new business set up by former Explorer Motorhomes co-owner John Burke.
The Wingamm micro-vans sit on an AL-KO chassis, with AL-KO rubber suspension, ball coupling and over-ride brakes, and offer instant set-up, thanks to their aerodynamic, monocoque and leak-proof (one piece) fibreglass bodies.
Despite their diminutive size, the Euro vans are well equipped inside with many features found on larger and heavier caravans including an internal bathroom, air-conditioner, internal and external storage lockers, awning and 2.0m internal height.
The two model Australian-spec range includes the 3750mm/12ft 6in (body length) Weekender which has an ATM of 1300kg and an internal layout that includes a combination shower/toilet, kitchen with stainless sink, two gas burner cooker and 90L compressor fridge, and a four-person dinette that converts to a double bed.
Other standard features on the Weekender include gas hot water, ducted air-conditioning, 110Ah battery and charger, 20in TV, 70L fresh water and 70L grey water tanks, and a 9kg gas bottle.
A bigger four-berth 16ft (4800mm body length) Long Weekender model is also available with 1500kg ATM and floorplan that includes a fixed, 1.87m x 1.30m double bed and four-seat dinette that converts to another 2.13m x 1.3m double bed.
The Little Gem Weekender also gets a combination shower/toilet and kitchen with sink, gas cooker and 90L fridge, along with gas hot water, ducted air conditioning, 110Ah battery system, 20in TV, roll-out awning, 9kg gas bottle and 70L fresh and 70L grey water tanks.
The vans are delivered fully compliant with Australian standards and are covered by a three year structural warranty. Pricing starts at $55,000 for the Weekender, going up to $69,000 for the Long Weekender.
John Burke said interest in the new Wingamm vans is growing, with eight sold so far. Little Gem Caravans is based on Queensland's Sunshine Coast but can deliver Australia-wide.
