Fans of legendary Aussie travel show, Ask the Leyland Brothers, rejoice!
More than 40 years after the first pioneering Leyland Brothers road trip hit the small screen, sole surviving Leyland brother Mal is back doing what he does best: uncovering hidden travel 'gems', this time for morning variety show, Studio 10.
The first of the laidback 'On the Road Again' travel segments saw the 74-year-old conduct a quick tour of outback Queensland town Blackall; located 960km north-west of Brisbane and boasting a permanent population of around 1416.
After pulling up in his trusty Fiat Ducato campervan at the dusty $8 a night campground along the river, Mal checks out the 'black stump' memorial in town (the home of the original, if you believe the signs!) before heading out for a tour of old wool shearer sheds that contain Australia's only remaining steam driven wool scourer.
Unfortunately, it's all over in four and a half minutes, with Mal promising to return next month with another well-off-the-beaten-track, must-see 'grey nomad' stop-off.
It's the latest gig for the still restless septuagenarian, who last year was a special guest at the Big Red Bash. Up until recently he continued to travel regularly from his Tasmanian home base with wife Laraine, who passed away in late-2018.
