Latitude grows motorhome business

New Queensland brand to add premium 27ft Iveco slider motorhome in 2018
Only a few months after releasing its first, upmarket campervan model, new Qld business Latitude Motorhomes is planning to appoint its first dealer and roll out more models in 2018, including a range-topping 27ft Iveco truck-based slide-out motorhome.
Latitude is currently run out of a small factory in Burleigh Heads by Ben and Michael MacLean, who for many years helped operate their father’s Paradise Motorhomes business before it was taken over recently.
Ben MacLean told Caravancampingsales that a new business model allowed Latitude to build motorhomes to an even higher standard than they were doing at Paradise, while keeping pricing competitive with rivals including Trakka and Horizon.
Priced from $140,000 Latitude’s first model, the smartly-finished 7.0m long, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van based Titanium (pictured), was fully developed using 3D modelling software, with precisely-cut components supplied by local CNC machining specialists allowing a quicker build time.
“So when we assemble the vehicle it takes us a quarter to a third of the hours that it would have taken that same type of build at Paradise,” he said.
“The good thing for the customer is that it not only reduces the price but reduces the chance of things going wrong because everything fits together so seamlessly.
“We’re also using (quality fittings) like top of the range Blum Legrabox drawers and lift mechanisms on the cupboards and solid steel locks – none of those little magnet catches and plastic things.”
MacLean said Latitude had already pre-sold two of the new 8.2m long Iveco-based slide-out motorhomes including one that will be optioned up to give it a price tag over $300,000. However, the new ‘Element’ model is expected to start at a more affordable $230,000.
Latitude is also considering offering a smaller Volkswagen Transporter ‘Kombi’ camper, but has shelved plans at the moment due to the higher volumes required.
With the two MacLean brothers the only employees at the moment, Latitude is currently selling factory direct, but the fledgling business hopes to appoint its first dealer in 2018.
